Pre-Surgery Care
Prepare Your Questions: You may not be in a position to clearly remember everything during discharge. Make sure you have written down all your questions for your medical team.
Prepare Your Home: Ensure all necessary modifications are in place before you return home, such as equipment (e.g., a raised toilet seat, bathroom grab bars, etc.). Have nutritious, premade, or frozen meals ready for convenience.
Post-Surgery Care
Post-Narcosis: You need a caregiver or nurse with you at discharge to ensure the anesthesia has completely worn off before you are left alone.
Pain Management: As the anesthesia wears off, pain may return. Have a pain management plan in place and know what to do when your prescription medication runs out.
Possible Complications & When to Seek Medical Help: Be aware of what to expect during recovery and recognize signs of potential complications. Know when to contact your doctor or seek immediate medical attention.
